Overview:

Schedules patients for surgery, tests, referrals, pre-operative tests, and medical and urological procedures. Position requires the utilization of clinical knowledge to schedule appropriate procedures/surgeries per provider's orders.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Schedules office and hospital based medical procedures and surgeries, completes facility paperwork
  • Schedules patients for diagnostic and imaging tests and completes informed consent with patients for procedures and surgeries
  • Interfaces with appropriate vendors to ensure all necessary equipment will be on site for procedures/surgeries
  • Reviews patient's medications and health history to determine pre-admission testing; enters notes and special instructions needed for procedures
  • Schedules and gets approval for appropriate medical and urological clearances
  • Confirms patient insurance information and obtains prior authorization as required
  • Schedules patients for follow-up appointments and tests.
  • Other duties as assigned

Essential Functions and Duties:

  • Knowledge of EMR and Microsoft Office
  • Computer background/knowledge preferred.
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures desirable.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology helpful.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Must possess tact, diplomacy and positive attitude
  • May require travel to other nearby urology offices

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma and 3-5 years of experience in a health care setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least three years of surgery scheduling experience or equivalent surgery scheduling/medical office experience is required
  • Must be able to multi task and handle obstacles with outstanding customer service skills required.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Required lifting up to 10lbs
  • Repetitive motion associated with operating a computer and other office equipment
  • Inside, climate-controlled working conditions.
